High-Quality SEO Is AEO (Here’s Why It Matters)

Is the AEO Craze Overhyped?
In short: yes. And here’s why.
Search has always evolved. That’s not new. Lately, the clickbait slogan has been: “SEO is dead. You need AEO!”
And I’m going to say what a lot of search marketers want to tell business owners: calm the f** down. Take a breath. You’re a badass business owner building a $100M business. You’re already on your path to your destiny. Err… let’s get back to our point here.
Let’s actually think this through. Are AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and other large language models important to be found on? Yes, for sure. Should you abandon your Google strategy for them? Absolutely not, don’t you dare touch that strategy. NO!
Ahem. Phew. Deep breaths for me.
Okay, now we’re ready for some sane data to help us out here. Here’s the reality the clickbaiters on Meta and LinkedIn seem to forget to mention. Google handles roughly 15 billion searches per day. ChatGPT sees around 2.5 billion prompts per day. That’s still a massive gap in scale.
And here’s the part that really gets overlooked, and the part business owners should understand. Large language models aren’t magically creating answers. They’re pulling from your website, your Google Business Profile, your structured content, and your authority signals. In other words, it’s the same foundation that has always mattered.
Which brings me to what I wanted to say all along: high-quality SEO is AEO. (This is probably the moment you just thought “aha.”)
When your website is clear, accurate, well-structured, and trustworthy, here’s what happens. Google understands it. AI understands it. Users trust it. When your Google Business Profile is optimized, Google pulls from it, AI pulls from it, and your local visibility improves everywhere. Are you catching what I’m throwing out here?
Yes, AEO matters. And your best foot forward is implementing high-quality SEO.
The businesses that will win aren’t chasing the next acronym (don’t click it). They’re building strong digital foundations that work across all search surfaces. So no, once again, SEO is not dead. It is, however, being rebranded by people who need something new to sell.
Here’s what we recommend. Do actual, quality SEO. Please don’t buy backlinks and call it a day, only to find they broke within a month. Promise me? Make your content clear, human, and useful for your customers. And voilà. This is how you show up for Google. It’s how you show up for AI. It’s how you stay found by the people who need you.
We’re 100% rooting for you. You’ve got this.
